Beijing You Chicken
The Beijing You Chicken is a renowned indigenous Chinese chicken breed originating from Beijing, with a history spanning over 300 years. During the Qing Dynasty, it was served as an imperial tribute to the royal court.
- Physical characteristics: It is famous for its distinctive “Three Yellows and Three Tufts” appearance. “Three Yellows” refers to its yellow feathers, yellow beak and yellow shanks. “Three Tufts” refers to the feather crest on the head, the beard under the chin and the feathered shanks. Many birds also exhibit polydactyly.
- Quality & use: Known for its rich intramuscular fat, tender meat and flavourful soup, it is a slow-growing dual-purpose breed.
